Recognizing Manipulation: Signs and Warnings
Manipulative people can challenge our psychological well-being and self-esteem. However, there are ways to protect ourselves and maintain our integrity.
- Aggressive or Judgmental Behavior: Manipulative people may show aggression or criticism when they don’t get what they want.
- Excessive Emotional Reaction: They react with excessive anger, sadness, or despair when you don’t follow or obey them.
- Pressures and Threats: Manipulative people may use pressure or threats to achieve their goals.
- Lack of Self-Confidence: They often seek validation or approval from others to boost their self-confidence.
- Parallel Behavior: They may be sweet and hospitable at first, but then influence and impose their will.
- Difficulty in Accepting: They have difficulty accepting the negative answer and persist until they achieve what they want.
- Dependent on Others’ Affirmation: They need constant approval and affirmation from others to feel good about themselves.
