Professional: What is required

professionalism

Professionalism is what is required from all of us in all professions regardless of position, and it is what often comes and negatively affects our professional life and we end up having undesirable results.

Our professionalism is defined by:
1) Our Image
2) Our Skills (for our work)
3)Our Attitude / Behavior
4) Our Communication

Based on the above we will analyze the 4 parameters and how we can follow the right steps to be Professionals:

1) Our Image:

It takes 7 seconds for your interlocutor to form his/her first impression. For this very reason it is necessary to know and take into account this factor.

Our image consists of our appearance and our social networks, where each company has its own code of ethics for appearance (type of clothing, personal hygiene and personal care) but also what shapes our image through social networks and affects each company.

2) Our Skills

Depending on the job we have, we need to develop our skills and evolve in our field. This can be done through continuous learning (theoretical level) and training (practice) so that we can evolve and grow.

Our goal is to be able to become more efficient in our work based on performance indicators and not based on our personal opinion.

3) Our Attitude / Behavior

Our Attitude and our behavior are decisive for us in order to be considered Professionals!

A prerequisite is to have a positive attitude towards everything that we face as this shapes the perception that we have the ability to manage various issues that may arise in the future.

At the same time, our behavior is the A to Z, and needs to include:

  • Consistency (in our meetings, in our schedules)
  • Politeness
  • Discretion
  • Not to discriminate
  • Reliability

It is good to consider whether our own behavior is inappropriate and contradicts the above!

4) Our Communication

The way we communicate is a cornerstone of whether we are Professionals or not!

The organizational communication in a business and the way we communicate are very important.

We should avoid bypassing positions and individuals to achieve what we want – we must follow the hierarchy that exists. At the same time, we avoid the aggressive communication style and use the basic principles of communication for better results. Communication needs lots of practice!

All the above are considered very important in order to be and look professional!

I suggest that you do a self-assessment and ask to be evaluated by independent individuals in order to be able to improve.
